Half Day or Full Day in Islamorada?

Four hours reaches the reef, the bridges and the near backcountry. Eight reaches the Gulf Stream, the humps and deep into the Everglades. Price follows the distance.

Should you book a half day or full day charter in Islamorada?

A half day (four hours, $700–$1,400 per boat) for the reef, tarpon at the local bridges, families and first-timers. A full day (eight hours, $950–$2,000) for offshore fish, the Everglades backcountry or swordfish. Bud N’ Mary’s says half days fish the nearby bridges for tarpon while full days often run to the Everglades.

Choosing

  • Families and first-timers: half day, or a two-hour trip for small children.
  • Tarpon: a half day can work. Bud N’ Mary’s says the bridges and channels near the marina are productive for tarpon on half days, while full days often fish tarpon in the Everglades.
  • Offshore fish (sailfish, mahi, tuna): six or eight hours. The Islamorada Hump is about 15 miles out, and the Gulf Stream moves.
  • Swordfish: a full day only: Bud N’ Mary’s fishes 25 to 45 miles out.

Half vs full day: questions

Is a half day enough for fishing in Islamorada?

For the reef, the local bridges and the nearby backcountry, yes. For offshore species like mahi, sailfish and tuna, most people book six or eight hours, because the fish can be 15 miles or more out.

How much more is a full day charter in Islamorada?

Per boat, Islamorada half days ran $700–$1,400 and full days $950–$2,000 on October 6, 2026. With the same operator, a full day cost $200 to $800 more than a half day: inshore skiffs at the low end, offshore boats at the high end.
