Every trip is private

Unlike Key West, the Islamorada operators listed here sell no party-boat or per-seat trips: every trip is a private charter for your group, priced per boat. EarlyBird says it can arrange split charters but publishes no per-person price. Boats take two to six anglers. Split four ways, a $700 inshore half day is $175 each and a $1,400 offshore half day $350. Private charters covers boat sizes.

What’s included, and what’s extra

Included at every operator that publishes a list: rods, reels, tackle and bait, the boat’s fishing licence and ice. Snap ’Em Up, Shake N Bait, EarlyBird and A Fishing Guru all say the crew cleans and bags or fillets your catch. Extra almost everywhere: food and drinks, and the tip. Some operators add more:

  • Card fees: 3 percent at EarlyBird and Islamorada Spearfishing; Hound Dawg says it adds a surcharge.
  • Fuel: Stray Cat says rates may vary with fuel prices and asks you to confirm when booking.
  • A third angler on Stray Cat’s 18-ft skiff, whose price covers two.

Deposits and cancellation

EarlyBird takes no deposit and is paid at the dock, but asks five days’ notice to cancel or charges $500. A Fishing Guru and Islamorada Spearfishing take 50 percent up front; A Fishing Guru refunds it, minus $50, if you cancel 30 or more days out. Six operators publish no cancellation policy at all, so ask before paying. Cancellations and weather has the detail.

Tipping: budget 20 percent on top

No operator includes the tip. EarlyBird, Shake N Bait and Hound Dawg all say 20 percent is customary; Pelagic Color takes gratuities in cash only. On a $1,300 half day that is $260. How much to tip has each operator’s wording.

Half day or full day

With the same operator, a full day cost $200 to $800 more than a half day: Stray Cat $750 and $950 on its skiff, Big Dave $1,400 and $1,800, Shake N Bait $1,300 and $2,000, EarlyBird $1,200 and $2,000. The extra hours buy distance: the Gulf Stream, the Islamorada Hump about 15 miles out, or a long run into the Everglades. Half day vs full day sets them side by side.

Backcountry or offshore

Backcountry trips are the cheaper day: $700–$1,200 per boat for four to eight hours, against $1,600 to $2,000 for a full offshore day. Backcountry or offshore compares the fish, the water and the price.

Charter price questions

How much does a fishing charter cost in Islamorada?

For a private boat, $700–$1,400 for a four-hour half day, $1,200–$1,700 for six hours and $950–$2,000 for eight, from the prices Islamorada operators showed online on October 6, 2026, before FareHarbor’s booking fee and tax. Backcountry skiffs sit at the low end and offshore boats at the top. Swordfishing was $2,800. The tip is extra.

Are there cheap or shared fishing trips in Islamorada?

None of the ten operators listed here sells a shared or per-seat trip online: every trip is a private charter. The cheapest are short family trips, $500–$650 per boat for two or three hours, and four-hour inshore trips from $700. Split four ways, a $1,300 offshore half day is $325 each.

What is included in an Islamorada fishing charter?

Rods, tackle and bait, the boat’s fishing licence and ice at every operator that publishes a list, and most crews clean and bag your catch. Food, drinks and the tip are yours. EarlyBird and Islamorada Spearfishing add 3 percent for card payments. What’s included goes operator by operator.

How much should I tip on an Islamorada charter?

Twenty percent of the charter price is the figure EarlyBird, Shake N Bait and Hound Dawg publish as customary, usually in cash to the mate and captain. The tipping guide has each operator’s wording.

Why do Islamorada charter prices vary so much?

Boat size and how far it runs. A two-angler skiff in the backcountry and a 39-foot offshore boat for six are different products. Even one operator prices by boat: A Fishing Guru’s offshore half day was $1,100 on its 26-foot Pathfinder and $1,300 on its 39-foot Contender.
